From mineral springs to a modern resort - a brief history

Krynica was first mentioned in 1547, but the breakthrough came after the discovery of the healing properties of the mineral springs in the 17th century. In 1794 the "Little House" - the first facility with baths - was built, which initiated the development of the resort. A key role was played by Professor Jozef Dietl, who began systematic modernization in 1856 and introduced innovative mud baths as early as 1858. The development of infrastructure, including the construction of a railroad line and a funicular railroad to Park Mountain, made Krynica a center of balneology, attracting the intellectual and artistic elite.
